Aims/Description: This unit provides health care practitioners with an in depth knowledge and understanding of normal and abnormal physiology in those patient at risk of deterioration in the acute care setting. It will explore current assessment approaches including the use of track and trigger tools and communication strategies designed to improve response to deterioration. The rigour of the tools in relation to their sensitivity, specificity and usability will be explored. The current issues in acute practice including policy, guidelines and clinical drivers will be explored.
