Aims/Description: This module provides each student with a hands-on manufacturing experience. They will fabricate multiple predefined components using a wide range of common engineering materials and production methods before assembling them into a finished artefact which will include moving and fixed parts.

Teaching Methods: Laboratory Work (24.5 hours) 7x 3.5 hours Workshop sessions. These will be led by technicians who will explain how to safely operate each tool used in the workshop, help the students to complete the necessary risk assessments and demonstrate each operation before supervising the students whilst they perform that operation (LOs 1 & 2). Independent Learning (3.5 hours) 7x 0.5 hours of preparation for each workshop session. This will include watching an online video, which will provide an explanation of the relevant manufacturing processes and completion of a pre-lab quiz (LO1).
