Aims/Description: Understanding the dynamics of systems and how to control the behaviour of these systems to meet stability and performance criteria is critical to a wide range of engineering disciplines. This module will show how the dynamics of many engineering systems can be modelled, analysed and controlled in a unified way. Using examples from across engineering, students will gain an understanding of how to unify these strategies in both continuous and discrete time. Students will learn how to design controllers to meet performance and stability criteria while appreciating the practical limitations and implications of these controllers.
