20 Credits SPRING

Aims/Description: This module builds on the skills introduced in the module Japanese 5.1, and develops them further. The skills are: independent translation from Japanese-English; reading comprehension of information dense non-literary texts; writing in Japanese with a focus on short reports and the presentation of data; and speaking, with a focus on formal presentations. Based on a common spine of skills development, students will apply these skills to linguistic material of a level appropriate to their linguistic competence, as in the module Japanese 5.1. Independent study, with students selecting their own materials to which to apply their skills, is a key element of the module, enabling students to develop as self-motivated and directed learners.

Restrictions on availability: This module is only available to students unable to travel to Japan for their mandatory year abroad in 2021/22

Teaching Methods: Tutorials, Independent Study
Assessment: Formal Exam, Course work, Practical
