20 Credits AUTUMN

Aims/Description: This module focuses on building key linguistic skills which are demanded from adult foreign users of the Japanese language. These skills are: translation into English; reading comprehension of non-literary texts; writing in Japanese with a focus on formal correspondence; and speaking, with a focus on job interviews and presentations. Based on a common spine of skills development, students will apply these skills to linguistic material of a level appropriate to their linguistic competence. Group work, with students selecting their own materials for study, is a key element of the module, enabling students to develop as independent learners.
