Pre-requisites: Students are normally expected to have a 1st or a 2.1 in a health related subject or extensive experience of work in a mental healthcare setting and a demonstrated capacity to work at masters level and have access to patients in primary care setting.

Aims/Description: This module introduces literature on the incidence, prevalence and presentation of common mental health problems and evidence-based treatments. Skills teaching will include learning and practising the assessment skills of active listening, engagement, information giving and shared decision-making. Low-intensity psychological treatments place a greater emphasis on patient self-management, such as guided self-help and computerised cognitive behavioural therapy. The module will teach seven separate low intensity change methods. Support is specifically designed to enable people to optimise their use of self-management recovery information and pharmacological treatments that may be delivered through face-to-face, telephone, email or other contact methods. Teaching will also cover the management of risk and the management of any change in risk status. 

Restrictions on availability: Restricted to students on the Pg Certificate in Low Intensity Psychological Interventions.
