Aims/Description: The overall aim of this module is to convey the principles underlying the growing arsenal of experimental approaches that are currently being employed to (i) identify virulence genes, (ii) elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying their genetic control, (iii) characterise their protein products both in terms of their structure and function at the molecular level, and (iv) unravel the molecular mechanisms by which virulence proteins are targeted to host cells or the extracellular milieu.
