Aims/Description: This module gives students the opportunity to plan and execute an extended piece of independent research, on a topic within Language studies that complements but does not duplicate work done in taught modules. It must relate to at least one of the countries/cultures whose languages are being studied. Students will have to demonstrate their preparedness for the dissertation by having done a module relevant to the proposed topic area at level 2, or by registering for a relevant module at level 3, although the dissertation is not in principle tied to a particular module.

The content of our courses is reviewed annually to make sure it's up-to-date and relevant. Individual modules are occasionally updated or withdrawn. This is in response to discoveries through our world-leading research; funding changes; professional accreditation requirements; student or employer feedback; outcomes of reviews; and variations in staff or student numbers. In the event of any change we'll consult and inform students in good time and take reasonable steps to minimise disruption.
