20 Credits AUTUMN

Aims/Description: This practical experience module is for German-native-speaker exchange students only. It offers students an introduction into the teaching of German as a foreign language in a UK university context. The mainstay of their activities will be planning and delivery of the German conversation classes from Beginner to Advanced level within a structured framework. In addition, students will be expected to initiate and (co-)organise a number of co-curricular activities. The module will be tailored to the individual strengths and interests of the exchange student in close collaboration with a Sheffield German Studies tutor.

Restrictions on availability: German Exchange Students

Staff Contact: Prof H de Berg
Teaching Methods: Tutorials, Placements, Independent Study
Assessment: The assessment will be portfolio-based. The portfolio will consist of two elements, as follows: (i) lessons plans and teaching materials such as hand-outs and PowerPoints; (LO1-5) (ii) a critical reflection of 2,000 words on the student's teaching experience combining an analysis of his or her personal performance with an analysis of language-pedagogical issues. (LO2, LO6)
