30 Credits AUTUMN

Pre-requisites: Students must have degree-level or equivalent linguistic competence in French

Co-requisites: FRE6654

Aims/Description: This module is one of two linked consecutive 30-credit modules taking as their starting point a conception of culture which can be extended to cultural productions of many kinds. In addition to texts, films and artworks, we may also study products such as bande dessinée and popular music; activities such as football, the Tour de France or festivals, and institutions such as educational establishments, prisons, theatres, newspapers. Cultural Studies deals with questions that arise from the examination of a society's representations of itself, and from the interactions between ethnicity, races, class and gender in the production and reception of texts, works and institutions.
