Aims/Description: This module is about the fundamental techniques used by a wide range of communications systems and common applications of antennas and radar systems. A major aim is to create a theoretical background that applies to all communication systems and is not affected by a particular technology. The characteristics of the common antenna systems will be examined (design and application). The module introduces the basic concepts of radar and examines types of radar system in common use. Airborne navigation and landing systems will be discussed. Emphasis is placed on `first-order' analysis techniques in order to reduce the use of advanced mathematics.
