Aims/Description: This module will look at the fundamental properties of semiconductor materials and devices. It will introduce properties of semiconductor materials such as Si, GaAs and GaN. The semiconductor material properties will be used to design a range of devices including solar cell, photodetector, LEDs, Lasers and microwave devices. Heterojunctions and nanostructures (such as quantum wells) will be introduced to improve semiconductor device performance. The module aims to provide the knowledge to exploit semiconductor properties, material selection and approaches in device designs.
