Aims/Description: The aims of this unit are to provide a basic introduction ot the Chinese language across the four skills. Reading and writing skills are taught with an emphasis on structure and principle to provide a solid foundation of core grammar. Practical speaking and listening skills, taught by means of audio materials and telephone interviews by experienced native speakers, are equally emphasised. Clear, controlled vocabulary attainment targets are set and strategies for character learning are introduced from the earliest stages.
