Aims/Description: This module builds on the practical skills gained in Level 1, and continues to develop laboratory techniques required in modern chemistry laboratories. Whilst entrenching safe and environmentally responsible routine laboratory techniques, the course achieves a progression forward with training in the use of modern methods of separation, characterisation and analytical techniques (such as chromatography, NMR spectroscopy, polarimetry, flame emission and flow injection etc.). In addition, advanced synthetic skills are introduced for example, techniques for manipulating air and moisture sensitive compounds

Teaching Methods: Lectures, Laboratory work, Independent Study
Assessment: Practical
