Aims/Description: This unit introduces the student to a variety of essential facts, principles and concepts from different areas of Biology focusing on the following topics: 1. Characteristics and classification of living organisms. 2. Biological molecules and processes (e.g. carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, enzymes, DNA , photosynthesis and respiration) 3. Cells (e.g. prokaryotes and eukaryotes; organelles; specialised cells; levels of organisation) 4. Genetics, inheritance and evolution (e.g. mitosis and meiosis, reproduction, mutation and evolution, genetic engineering; stem cells; model organisms).

Restrictions on availability: Only available to students on DLL FY programmes
